Shootings in Oregon because of being Christian

Yesterday 10 people were  killed because they were Christian and others were wounded. This all happened in Oregon at Umpqua Community College. According to news resources, the killer shot people who were Christian and shot others in the legs who didn't know. It seems that he was looking for fame since a recent blog entry talks about the fame others receive when murdered. He also died.

Whatever the case or reason why he murdered people, the fact remains ten people are gone and their families will never be the same. As a Catholic, you want to forgive and pray for all involved. But it's very hard to do.  Imagine how hard it is for God to forgive for the most heinous crimes and actions to those he loves million times a day.

The guy who did this wanted to be in the limelight but why over such a cowardly act? He killed people who were completely defenseless and not knowing anything would happen. If you want to be in the limelight, make it for something awesome and brave. For example, helping others, teaching others, feeding the homeless, defending the helpless etc.  That is what you'd want to be remembered for - not being a coward.

Being Catholic and voting for pro choice candidates do not mix

I felt deeply saddened seeing Clinton bumper stickers on cars at the Catholic Church I attend.  I also felt saddened to hear some catechism teachers are also voting for Clinton. How is this possible?  Where is the disconnect? Yes, we do have Church and state, but when we're talking about 700,000 unborn babies being killed a year, abortion takes center stage.  I'm pro life because of biology and loving other human beings.  Jesus Himself has said, that He has loved each one of us before we were born.  Being Christian and Catholic centers around love and compassion.  Abortion isn't either of these things. A baby is killed and a woman is left injured and often in regret. Killing innocent lives is the opposite of love and therefore the opposite of God. I am fully and painfully aware there are other issues in the country.  I know Trump isn't this wonderful, pleasant person.  I don't like him but voting goes beyond personal feelings. But I also know that Clinton supports a

Divorced Catholics are welcome by the Catholic Church

Pope Francis  is happy to make something clear: people who  divorce  and remarry in a civil marriage are not excommunicated. This simply means that they can still receive Communion during Mass. The couple should be encouraged to attend Mass and bring their family. Pope Francis addressed this question on Wednesday, August 5 in his talks. Children are the most important concern to Pope Francis. He realizes that divorce happens and being raised in a home that has constant arguing isn't a good thing to children. Pope Francis acknowledged that divorce isn't a thing to do for trivial reasons and ultimately needs to be the last option. However, if a divorce happens, and remarriage occurs civilly, they need to be welcomed in  church . Pope Francis explained that the Catholic Church should be seen as a mother. Mothers see the best in someone no matter the circumstances. A mother loves unconditionally and will not turn their child away because of mistakes. Mothers are quick to forgive an

Why aren't Sunday's included in Lent?

If Lent is 40 days, why do we not count  Sundays ? Are Sundays included in  Lent ? The answer is no Sundays are not included in Lent. Jesus's first disciples followed the Book of Genesis. Saturday was the day of rest when God created the world. People who are Jewish still have their Sabbath on Saturdays. Christians changed the day to  Sunday  because Jesus Christ rose from the dead on a Sunday. The original disciples called the apostles noted the Resurrection as a brand new period in life. So Sunday became the Christian Sabbath day so to speak. Each Sunday became a day to celebrate and rejoice that Jesus Christ rose and is the Son of God. Christians changed Saturday to Sunday for the day of rest. Penance of any kind or fasting would be forbidden. The 40 days of Lent represent when Jesus fasted in the desert for forty days before publicly starting His ministry. Sundays do not count because of no fasting or penance. Therefore, Lent had to be made into six full weeks plus four extra d
